Huge Update – New Design, Extensions, International Data, API & More

We released a huge update to Follow!  Here are the details!

AN API FOR DEVELOPERS (COMING THIS MONTH):

Our application has been rebuilt on top of a brand new API.    Anything you can do in the application, you’ll also be able to do with the API.    You won’t be able to access the data owned by our partners, however, everything we own, you’ll have full access to. The API will be available to developers later this month.

A BRAND NEW DESIGN:

Follow has a new flat theme.  It’s simple & bold.   It’s also fully responsive. The experience is now the same for both our extensions and web app. This will make it more intuitive when switching back and forth between the experiences.

Our new design is more helpful than ever.  We’ve included a ton of new tooltips.  Don’t know what something means?  Hover your mouse over any question mark icon and read about what the data means.

We added a new usage widget.  You’ll find it in the bottom-left corner of our sidebar.  This widget tells you important information about your account usage and limits.  Want to increase your limits? Sign up for a paid account!

INTERNATIONAL ADVERTISING DATA:

You’ve asked for it!  You can now filter the advertising data by country.  Interested in seeing how a website is advertising in Brazil, Canada or some other country? Not a problem! You can now do that in seconds.  Click on the country selector button (shown below). This button is available for the SEO, SEM & Display Advertising overview sections.  Our data partners are amazing, and we’ve worked with them to provide you with this data.  Over 20+ countries are now supported!

3 NEW EXTENSIONS (COMING THIS MONTH):

We are also releasing new extensions for Chrome, Firefox and finally, a real Safari extension!   Our existing extensions are already the best in their class, but we wanted to make them even better.  The new extensions we are releasing will be our best extensions yet.

They are completely native, which means the experience will feel smooth, clean & fast.  Our previous extensions simply loaded up iframes of our website. That wasn’t ideal, because it requires more time for it to load up both our website and the data on every load.  A native extension, means it won’t have to wait for our website to load any more, it’ll simply use our new APIs and pull the data right away.  It’ll be much quicker.

You’re going to love our new extensions.  We’ll be releasing at least one of these new extensions this week and the rest, shortly thereafter.

It’s an exciting month for us.  We’ve been working on this update for over a year.  We’re a small self-funded team that works remotely around the world.  We’re focused on building the best possible products we can, and we can’t wait to share them with you.

If you’re a developer, contact us about our API.  We’ll be releasing our API documentation publicly this month. However, if you contact us, we’ll get you setup sooner!

Check out the new & improved Follow today!

Enjoy!

On behalf of Wes, Waldek, Davide & the entire Follow team.

New AdClarity Integration

Follow-and-AdClarity-250x250We are excited to announce our newest integration with AdClarity. They provide display advertising competitive intelligence. In Follow you’ll now see several new AdClarity reports under our display advertising overview tab.

As with all of our 3rd party integrations, we only show some of their high-level top datasets.  If you want all of their data, you’ll need to sign up with them directly.  You can sign up for AdClarity by visiting their website.

Why are we adding another display advertising data partner when we have three already?  Every company providing competitive advertising data tries their best to get the most accurate data possible.  But because no one gets it directly from the ad networks, no one has 100% accurate data.  No vendor can tell you exactly how much a website is spending to advertise online, or show you with 100% accuracy every ad they are currently running online.  They don’t have to be 100% accurate though.  They just have to give you a good enough understanding of a competitor’s campaign to make use of it.

We show you data from multiple different partners because each of them offer a different view of how your competitors are advertising.   We believe you’ll get a better view of your competitor’s marketing campaigns when viewing their information from several sources.   This also gives you a chance to preview all of their data before you decide to sign up for any of them.

We hope you’ll enjoy our newest integration partner, AdClarity.  We’re excited to join them with the rest of our other great data partners.  Without further ado, here’s what our new integration with AdClarity has to offer!

Display Advertising:

  • Advertiser Overview
    • See the number of impression, mediators, unique publishers, campaigns, text ads and image/flash creatives the website has.
  • Top Countries
    • See the top countries they are advertising in, the number of campaigns and publisher sites they are advertising on.
  • Top Mediators
    • See the advertisers top mediators.  A mediator is an entity that is involved in the deployment of a campaign, but is not the advertiser or the publisher. Mediators can be ad networks, affiliate networks, agencies, exchanges, and any other “middlemen” involved with a campaign.
  • Top US Publishers
    • See the advertisers top US targeted site placements.
  • Top US Text Ads
    • See the advertisers top US targeted text ads
  • Top US Image/Flash Creatives
      • See the advertisers top US targeted flash & image creatives.

What does AdClarity’s share of voice mean?  You’ll see this included in a lot of their datasets. The statistical share, or share of voice, is the part of the total advertising space available occupied by the given entity. For example, when looking at a specific advertiser, you can see the list of campaigns run by that advertiser and their statistical share. A statistical share of 58% for a given campaign means that of all the times AdClarity has come across this advertiser, 58% of the occurrences were of this particular campaign.

Affiliate-program

Our affiliate program is now live. You can now earn money when any of your referrals upgrade to a paid follow account. Here’s what’s new:

1) Payout Increases

We’ve increased our referral commissions. Originally you were going to just be paid 20% of any sale. Now you’ll be paid $10.00 or 20% of the sale, whichever is greater. 2) Commission Reporting

If any of your referrals have upgraded to a paid account, you can now see every commission you’ve earned in our interface. Simply go to: https://app.follow.net/referral/commissions

3) Notification Emails

Every time you receive a pending commission, you’ll receive an email notification about it. To change this notification setting please go here: https://app.follow.net/notifications

4) Receiving Payments

We will be sending out the first affiliate payments in early February, 2014. We’ll be reaching out to you when it’s time for you to enter all of your payment information.
